MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Twins became the last team in the major leagues to win this season, after Byung Ho Park drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory Friday night over theLos Angeles Angels.

Both Minnesota and Atlanta stopped nine-game losing streaks Friday. The Braves beat Miami earlier in the night. That left the 2002 Detroit Tigers with the dishonor of being the last team to start a season 0-10 or worse.

Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun homered for the Angels, whose four-game winning streak ended.

Miguel Sano and Trevor Plouffe hit consecutive RBI doubles in the sixth off Angels starter Garrett Richards, the third multi-run inning for the Twins this season. This was the first time they topped three runs in a game, but they're still last in the majors with 19 runs.

BRAVES 6, MARLINS 3

MIAMI (AP) - Adonis Garcia drove in three runs in the final three innings and the Atlanta Braves rallied for their first victory of the year after nine consecutive losses, beating Miami.

The Braves managed just one hit in the first six innings, trailed 3-0 in the seventh and appeared on the verge of falling to 0-10, which would have matched the worst start in franchise history in 1988.

Their comeback began with three consecutive hits in the seventh, including a double by Garcia to drive in the first Atlanta run. Nick Markakis' RBI single in the eighth made it 3-all, and Garcia's two-run double put the Braves ahead.

WHITE SOX 1, RAYS 0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Chris Sale tossed a two-hitter, Melky Cabrera singled in Jimmy Rollins in the ninth and Chicago beatTampa Bay.

Sale (3-0), from nearby Lakeland, struck out nine for his best start to a season since going 5-0 in 2014. He retired 16 straight between singles by Desmond Jennings in the second and Steve Pearce in the seventh.

The game was delayed for about 10 minutes after the seventh so a woman struck by a foul ball in the bottom of the inning could get treatment.

The fan, sitting in box seats next to the Tampa Bay dugout on the first-base side, was taken off on a stretcher. The ball came off the bat of Rays designated hitter Steven Souza Jr.

DODGERS 7, GIANTS 3

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kike Hernandez homered his first two times up against Madison Bumgarner, drove in four runs and prevented two more with a diving catch in left field, leading Clayton Kershaw and Los Angeles over San Francisco.

Kershaw (2-0) was charged with three runs - two earned - and five hits over seven innings with six strikeouts and no walks. The Giants scored their first two runs on the left-hander's first two wild pitches of the season.

Bumgarner (1-1) gave up seven runs - four earned - and five hits in five-plus innings. He struck out seven, but his teammates committed three errors behind him. The 2014 World Series and NLCS MVP was 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA in his other three head-to-head showdowns with Kershaw at Dodger Stadium.

This was the sixth time in Kershaw's last seven starts against the Giants that his mound opponent was Bumgarner. Neither got a decision last Saturday in San Francisco.

METS 6, INDIANS 5

CLEVELAND (AP) - Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker each hit a two-run homer in a five-run fifth inning, and New York held off Cleveland.

Michael Conforto and Alejandro De Aza also went deep for the Mets, who entered with 20 runs and a major league-low two homers in their first eight games.

De Aza had a leadoff homer in the fifth and finished with three hits from the No. 9 spot in the batting order. Cespedes also had three of New York's 14 hits.

Cleveland scored three times in the ninth before Jeurys Familia retired Jose Ramirez with two on for his third save.

Bartolo Colon (1-1) allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and earned his 219th win, tying Pedro Martinez for second-most by a Dominican-born pitcher behind Juan Marichal (243).

ASTROS 1, TIGERS 0

HOUSTON (AP) - Dallas Keuchel pitched eight scoreless innings, Colby Rasmus provided the offense with an RBI single and Houston snapped a three-game skid with a win over Detroit.

Luke Gregerson pitched a perfect ninth to complete the shutout and earn his third save.

Keuchel (2-1), who was last year's American League Cy Young winner, has won a franchise-record 17 straight regular season games at home. He hasn't lost in Houston since Aug. 10, 2014.

On Friday he allowed five hits and struck out four with one walk for his second win this season.

Mike Pelfrey (0-2) allowed five hits, one run and tied a career-high with six walks in six innings for his second straight loss to start the season.

ROCKIES 6, CUBS 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Chad Bettis pitched six scoreless innings, Ben Paulsen had an RBI single and threw out a runner at the plate, and Colorado took advantage of Chicago's shaky defense for a victory.

The Cubs, who had won eight of nine in their best start in 47 years, managed only four singles and made four errors. Third baseman Kris Bryant committed two of the errors, including a wild throw on a bunt that scored a run in the seventh.

Bettis (2-0) was sharp in first career start against the Cubs. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed three hits, struck out four and walked three.

Chicago right-hander Kyle Hendricks (1-1) was charged with four runs, two earned, and seven hits in six innings. The Cubs had won five in a row.

MARINERS 7, YANKEES 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Robinson Cano got two more hits to celebrate his special connection to Jackie Robinson Day as Seattle sent New York to its third straight loss.

Cano's father, a former major league pitcher, named his son for the Brooklyn Dodgers great. Cano improved to 14 for 38 (.368) on the day all major leaguers honor the late Hall of Famer by wearing his No. 42.

Cano was 1 for 19 when he hit an early RBI single. The former Yankees star began the season on a home run binge, but had cooled off.

Chris Iannetta homered, singled twice and drove in three runs. The Mariners opened a nine-game trip by boosting their road record to 3-1. They are 1-5 at Safeco Field.

RED SOX 5, BLUE JAYS 3

BOSTON (AP) - Rick Porcello pitched 6 1/3 solid innings and Travis Shaw hit a two-run double to lead Boston to a victory overToronto.

David Ortiz added a run-scoring double for Boston, moving him one RBI behind Hall of Famer Tony Perez (1,652) for 26th all time. Big Papi also stole a base, joining Ted Williams, Cy Young and Rickey Henderson as the only four Red Sox players with a steal at 40-years-old.

Edwin Encarnacion hit his first two homers of the season, drove in all three Toronto runs and had all of three of the Blue Jays' hits.

Porcello (2-0) gave up three runs and two hits, striking out eight and walking one. Craig Kimbrel got the final three outs for his third save.

R. A. Dickey (1-2) gave up four runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings.

NATIONALS 9, PHILLIES 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Bryce Harper had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs, and Joe Ross allowed three hits in 7 2/3 shutout innings to help Washington to its best start in club history.

Jayson Werth added two doubles and three RBIs, and Michael Taylor also went deep for Washington, which improved to 8-1 to mark the best nine-game beginning since the franchise was born in 1969 as the Montreal Expos.

Ross (2-0) struck out five and walked two. The 22-year-old, facing the Phillies for the first time, retired 12 straight before Freddy Galvis' two-out single in the eighth ended his night.

BREWERS 8, PIRATES 4

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ryan Braun hit two long two-run home runs and Jimmy Nelson took a shutout into the seventh inning as Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh.

Braun had a 460-foot shot off the batter's eye in center field off Kyle Lobstein in the sixth to put the Brewers ahead 5-0. After thePirates drew within a run, Braun hit a 415-foot shot to dead center in the eighth off Neftali Feliz for his third of the season to make it 7-4.

It was Braun's 23rd career multi-homer game.

Pinch-hitter Matt Joyce hit a three-run homer, his first, to chase Nelson (2-1) with none out in the seventh. The Pirates cut the gap to 5-4 later in the inning on back-to-back doubles by David Freese and Starling Marte with two outs.

Jeff Locke (0-1) gave up three runs, five hits and walked seven in 4 2/3 innings.

ORIOLES 11, RANGERS 5

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Mark Trumbo hit two of Baltimore's four home runs in a nine-run seventh inning and the Orioles beat Texas.

The Orioles were still down 5-3 after Trumbo's two-run homer chased Martin Perez with no outs in the seventh. They went ahead to stay when Jonathan Schoop and Nolan Reimold hit back-to-back homers off Tom Wilhelmsen (1-1), and Trumbo added a three-run shot off a second reliever later in the inning.

Trumbo is the first Baltimore batter ever with two homers in the same inning, and first in the majors since Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion against Houston on July 26, 2013, according to STATS.

Schoop homered again in the eighth, a solo shot that was his third of the season and gave him his third career game with multiple homers.

CARDINALS 14, REDS 3

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Matt Holliday had two of St. Louis' six home runs in a rout of Cincinnati.

Aledmys Diaz and Brandon Moss each added three-run homers to help the Cardinals to their sixth win in the last seven games. They have scored seven or more runs in all six wins and hit double-digits four times.

Moss and Matt Adams also homered. Adams' pinch-hit homer was the second of the game and sixth of the season. That surpasses the Cardinals total of four from pinch hitters last season.

Holliday drove in four runs and reached base four times in recording the 20th multi-homer game of his career.

Carlos Martinez (2-0) allowed three runs and six hits over seven innings.

Tim Melville (0-1) gave up seven runs in three innings.

ROYALS 4, ATHLETICS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Kendrys Morales had three hits and got his 500th career RBI to help Kansas City win its fourth straight by beating Oakland.

Edinson Volquez (2-0) pitched six innings, retiring seven of the last eight batters he faced. He gave up two runs and four hits. Eric Hosmer homered for the Royals.

Stephen Vogt homered, singled twice and scored both runs for the A's, who lost their fourth straight and fell to 1-7 at home.

Rich Hill (1-2) struggled through 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and nine hits on 106 pitches.

Kelvin Herrera, Joakim Soria and Wade Daviseach pitched a scoreless inning, with Davis recording his fifth save in five chances.

DIAMONDBACKS 3, PADRES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Jake Lamb dashed home with the go-ahead run on a soft infield single by pinch-hitter Phil Gosselin with one out in the ninth inning, lifting Arizona over San Diego.

Brad Ziegler escaped a big jam to preserve the victory, getting Jon Jay to ground into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded for his second save.

Lamb reached on an infield single against Fernando Rodney (0-1) to start the ninth, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by catcher Derek Norris. Lamb then scored when Gosselin hit a dribbler to first base.

The Padres dropped to 0-4 at home. However, Alexei Ramirez and Alexi Amarista drove in the team's first runs in San Diego this season.

Daniel Hudson (1-0) earned the win in relief of Zack Greinke, who lost his first two starts with Arizona. Greinke was lifted after allowing Wil Myers' double with one out in the eighth. He allowed two runs and six hits.

Arizona's Welington Castillo homered off James Shields leading off the second.

MLB Capsules (April 15, 2016)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Vince Velasquez struck out a career-high 16 in a dominant three-hitter, Ryan Howard homered and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 3-0 on Thursday.

Velasquez (2-0) had no walks and extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings with his first shutout in nine career starts. The 23-year-old right-hander, acquired in the trade that sent former closer Ken Giles to Houston, had nine strikeouts in six innings in a 1-0 victory at the New York Mets on Saturday.

The Padres were shut out for the fifth time in 10 games. They scored one run - with two outs in the ninth on Wednesday - in the last three games. Lefty Drew Pomeranz (1-1) tied his career best with eight strikeouts in six innings, allowing three hits and two runs.

Velasquez retired the last 14 batters he faced. He fanned Wil Myers on a 96 mph fastball to end it, threw both arms up in the air and jumped off the mound.

CARDINALS 7, BREWERS 0

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Jaime Garcia pitched a one-hitter, allowing only Domingo Santana's lined single into right field with two outs in the sixth inning, in St. Louis' victory over Milwaukee.

Garcia struck out 13, three more than his previous career high, and caught eight of them looking at third strikes. The left-hander is 4-1 with a 1.44 ERA in his last five starts against the Brewers.

Randal Grichuk and Jeremy Hazelbaker hit two-run homers. Grichuk's drive in the third off Wily Peralta (0-3), which boosted the lead to 5-0, barely eluded center fielder Keon Broxton.

Hazelbaker hit his team-high third home run of the season in the seventh, against Chris Capuano.

CUBS 8, REDS 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Jason Hammel pitched six scoreless innings, drove home a run and scored another to lead Chicago past Cincinnati for the Cubs' best start since 1969.

The Cubs swept the three-game series and improved to 8-1 for the first time in 47 years. They won 11 of 12 to start the `69 season en route to a second-place finish.

Dexter Fowler and Addison Russell had three hits, and Kris Bryant hit his second home run.

Hammel (1-0) allowed four hits, walked four and struck out three on 88 pitches in chilly weather.

Raisel Iglesias (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings.

NATIONALS 6, BRAVES 2

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bryce Harper hit his first grand slam to reach 100 career home runs, launching a shot that smashed a panel on an electronic signboard and sent Washington over Atlanta, dropping the Braves to 0-9.

The Braves and Minnesota, which fell to 0-9 hours earlier, are the first major league teams to lose nine in a row to start a season since Detroit in 2003, STATS said. Atlanta moved closer to the team-worst 0-10 beginning in 1988.

Harper connected for his slam in the third inning and became the eighth-youngest player to hit 100 homers. The reigning NL MVP is 23 years, 181 days old - Hall of Famer Mel Ott was more than a full year younger when he became the youngest to do it.

Stephen Strasburg (2-0) allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings, a day after he was scratched due to illness. Wilson Ramos had a solo home run and an RBI double as Washington improved to 7-1, tying the 1974 Montreal Expos for the best eight-game start in franchise history.

Julio Teheran (0-2) gave up six runs in seven innings.

WHITE SOX 3, TWINS 1

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota dropped to 0-9, falling to Mat Latos, Avisail Garcia and Chicago.

The Twins have scored only 14 runs this season.

The White Sox (7-2) won their fourth in a row, extending their best start since an 8-1 run in 1982. They're 6-1 on the road after recording their first sweep at Minnesota since 2012.

Latos (2-0) gave up one run and three hits in six innings. Ervin Santana (0-1) allowed three runs in seven innings. Garcia drove a two-out fastball into the open grass behind the center field wall a solo home run in the fourth. He hit a double about as hard leading off the seventh inning and came around on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.

DODGERS 5, DIAMONDBACKS 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kike Hernandez hit a two-run double during a five-run seventh inning to back another solid outing from rookie Ross Stripling, and Los Angeles beat Arizona.

Stripling allowed two runs on five hits but trailed 2-0 when he exited after six innings. He tossed 7 1/3 hitless innings against San Francisco in his major league debut last week.

Arizona starter Robbie Ray was charged with the first two runs in the seventh. Randall Delgado (0-1) allowed an RBI single to Justin Turner and then Hernandez's drive to the wall in left-center. Andrew Chafin then gave up RBI singles to Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez.

Ray allowed the two runs on four hits and five walks over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six.

J.P. Howell (1-0) got the victory with a perfect inning of relief.

BLUE JAYS 4, YANKEES 2

TORONTO (AP) - Josh Donaldson hit a three-run home run, Troy Tulowitzki added a solo shot and Toronto beat New York.

Marcus Stroman (2-0) allowed two runs and three hits in eight innings to win his seventh consecutive decision. Stroman retired the final 11 batters he faced, and improved to 5-1 with a 2.39 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees. Roberto Osuna finished for his fourth save.

Donaldson erased a 2-0 deficit with a second drive to center in the fifth. Tulowitzki snapped a 0-for-10 slump with a first-pitch blast in the sixth. Both homers came off Nathan Eovaldi (0-1).

ROYALS 6, ASTROS 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Ian Kennedy threw seven strong innings, and Eric Hosmer hit a two-run double during a five-run sixth and Kansas City had a season-high 13 hits to beat Houston.

Kennedy (2-0) started with five hitless innings and retired 14 straight before Carlos Gomez's leadoff single to center in the sixth. Kennedy struck out seven and allowed a run on two hits and two walks.

Mike Moustakas hit a solo homer in the first and went 2 for 4 with a walk. The defending World Series champs are 7-2 after winning the final three games of the four-game set with the Astros.

Wade Davis got two outs for his fourth save. Doug Fister (1-1) was the loser.

RANGERS 6, ORIOLES 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Rougned Odor had a tiebreaking double in a five-run sixth inning and Texas beat Baltimore, handing theOrioles their second straight loss after a 7-0 start.

The Texas rally preserved a career-best nine-game winning streak for ace Cole Hamels, who struggled after retiring the first eight hitters and left facing a 3-1 deficit in the sixth.

After Tom Wilhelmsen (1-0) kept theRangers close by getting an inning-ending double play, five straight Texas hitters reached in the sixth against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman (1-1).

Mark Trumbo hit his third homer for the Orioles.

Texas closer Shawn Tolleson pitched around a two-out single in the ninth for his third save.

TIGERS 7, PIRATES 4

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jordan Zimmermann pitched six shutout innings, Nick Castellanos homered and drove in four runs and Detroit beat Pittsburgh to improve to 4-0 on the road.

Zimmermann (2-0), who signed a five-year, $110 million deal with Detroit last December, gave up six hits and two walks while striking out four. He has yet to give up a run for the Tigers.

Castellanos hit a two-run double in the fourth off Gerrit Cole (0-2) and added a two-run homer in the eighth off Tony Watson. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.

INDIANS 6, RAYS 0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Danny Salazar gave up three hits in six innings, Marlon Byrd hit one of Cleveland's three home runs and the Indians beat Tampa Bay.

Cleveland took two of three in the series, limiting the Rays to 15 hits.

Salazar (2-0) struck out nine and walked three. Zach McAllister, Bryan Shaw and Trevor Bauer completed a five-hitter. Chris Archer (0-3) gave up three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He is 0-6 with a 5.83 ERA in nine starts since beating Baltimore on Aug. 31.

Jose Ramirez and Rajai Davis also homered.

ROCKIES 11, GIANTS 6

DENVER (AP) - Jorge De La Rosa had two hits, drove in two runs and pitched into the seventh inning to lead Colorado past San Francisco.

De La Rosa (1-1) allowed four runs - three earned - struck out seven and walked one in 6 2/3 innings. He was coming off a Saturday outing against San Diego in which he gave up seven runs in four innings.

Brandon Belt homered for the second straight game for the Giants.

Matt Cain (0-1) took the loss.

Rockies place OF Blackmon on 15-Day DL

Murphy will report to Triple-A Rochester.

Murphy was under a contract with the Boston Red Sox this past Spring, but was released before Opening Day.

Phillies LHP Stumpf suspended 80 games

Philadelphia Phillies LHP Daniel Stumpf was suspended 80 games Thursday for violating Major League Baseball's policy against performance-enhancing drugs.

Stumpf tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, the MLB said.

The Phillies said in a statement that they were "disappointed to hear today's news of Daniel's violation."

Stumpf's suspension is effective immediately.

As a corresponding move, the Phillies recalled LHP Elvis Araujo from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to replace Stumpf on the major league roster.

HOUSTON (AP) Salvador Perez tagged Houston reliever Ken Giles for a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning, lifting theKansas City Royals over the Houston Astros 4-2 Wednesday night.

The World Series champion Royals have taken two of the three from the team they beat in the decisive Game 5 of the AL Division Series last October. This four-game set wraps up Thursday.

Giles (0-1) retired the first two batters in the eighth before walking Alex Gordon on a full count. Perez followed with a drive off the facade above the Crawford Boxes in left field.

Giles has given up three home runs in four games, and flung his glove in the dugout after this latest shot. He was acquired fromPhiladelphia in the offseason after giving up a total of three homers in 113 games over the past two years.

Jose Altuve had three hits for Houston, including a solo home run.

Luke Hochevar (1-0) got the win and Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his first save.

RED SOX 4, ORIOLES 2

BOSTON (AP) Baltimore finally lost after opening the season with a team-record seven straight wins, beaten by the bats of Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Boston.

The Orioles were the last undefeated team in the majors, ending their longest winning streak to start a season since moving to Baltimore in 1954. The franchise opened 9-0 in 1944 as the St. Louis Browns.

The Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak. Bogaerts hit a two-run double and Bradley had a tiebreaking triple.

Chris Davis hit a two-run homer for the Orioles.

Joe Kelly (1-0) labored through five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Craig Kimbrel, the fifth Boston reliever, struck out all three batters he faced for his second save. He took the loss in the first game of the series, giving up a three-run homer to Davis.

Ubaldo Jimenez (1-1) gave up four runs on six hits and four walks in five innings.

CUBS 9, REDS 2

CHICAGO (AP) - John Lackey pitched into the seventh inning, Kris Bryant hit his first homer of the season and Chicago matched the best eight-game start in franchise history with a victory over Cincinnati.

Miguel Montero had two of Chicago's 10 walks and scored three times as the Cubsimproved to 7-1 for the first time since 1985 and just the 11th time overall. Jason Heyward drove in two runs with a two-out single in the third and robbed Scott Schebler of a hit with a diving grab in right-center in the fourth.

Lackey (2-0) allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three, rebounding nicely from a shaky start at Arizona last Thursday.

Lackey also contributed at the plate, chasing Alfredo Simon (0-1) with a two-out RBI single in Chicago's five-run first.

ROCKIES 10, GIANTS 6

DENVER (AP) - Nolan Arenado homered twice, doubled and singled to drive in a career-high seven runs, rookie Trevor Story had two triples and Colorado tied a franchise record with 12 extra-base hits while beating San Francisco.

The Rockies set a team record with four triples. Story had three of Colorado's 18 hits.

Arenado was one RBI shy of the club mark done four times. He hit a two-run homer in the third inning and added a three-run shot in the eighth that broke open a one-run game.

San Francisco starter Jake Peavy (0-1) allowed a franchise-high 10 of those extra-base hits. It is the most allowed by a pitcher since Curt Schilling gave up 10 for Boston on Aug. 10, 2006, against Kansas City.

Chris Rusin (1-0) threw 2 1/3 innings to get the win.

WHITE SOX 3, TWINS 0

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Carlos Rodon worked his way out of trouble several times to complete six scoreless innings, Jerry Sands hit a two-run home run and Chicago kept Minnesota winless.

At 0-8, the Twins have been outscored 33-13 this season.

The only other winless team in the majors is Atlanta, also 0-8. The Twins beat the Braves in that epic seven-game World Series in 1991 - some 25th anniversary this season is turning out to be for the two teams.

Rodon (1-1) needed 107 pitches to make it as far as he did. He walked five, including the leadoff man twice, but the Twins left the bases loaded in the sixth after filling them with one out. David Robertson pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save in as many attempts.

Phil Hughes (0-2) gave up the one-out homer to straightaway center field to Sands in the seventh.

NATIONALS 3, BRAVES 0

WASHINGTON (AP) - Tanner Roark pitched seven innings, Stephen Drew and Jayson Werth hit fourth-inning home runs and Washington beat winless Atlanta for its fourth straight victory.

Roark allowed four hits and three walks. Pitching on five days of rest, Roark (1-1) struck out four and left after 100 pitches.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

The Braves (0-8) are off to their worst start since opening the 1988 season with 10 losses.

Washington got three runs and four hits in six innings against Atlanta starter Matt Wisler (0-1).

The Braves were without outfielder Hector Olivera, who was placed on paid administrative leave by Major League Baseball after he was arrested and charged with assaulting a woman at a hotel outside Washington.

INDIANS 4, RAYS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Carlos Carrasco pitched eight efficient innings, Jason Kipnis hit his first homer and Cleveland beat Tampa Bay.

Carrasco (1-0) came within one strike of a no-hitter here last July and held Tampa Bay to just a single and a walk through the first seven innings in this one. He allowed a run on three hits in the eighth inning and finished with eight strikeouts and just 93 pitches.

Drew Smyly (0-2) tied a career high with 11 strikeouts in seven innings for the Rays. The left-hander gave up three runs on three hits, all in the fourth inning.

Cody Allen pitched the ninth for his second save.

TIGERS 7, PIRATES 3

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a grand slam for his 100th career home run, Shane Greene pitched six strong innings in his first start since undergoing shoulder surgery last August and Detroit beat Pittsburgh.

Saltalamacchia connected off Arquimedes Caminero (0-2) with two outs in the sixth inning, hitting a drive into the right-field bleachers that enabled the Tigers to erase a 2-1 deficit.

Greene (1-0) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings in his first start of the season, which was delayed after the Tigers were rained out Sunday night against the New York Yankees.

BLUE JAYS 7, YANKEES 2

TORONTO (AP) - Jose Bautista had two hits and collected his 800th RBI, J.A. Happ worked six innings for his first victory of the season and Toronto beat New York.

Facing the Yankees for the first time since Aug. 31, 2014, Happ (1-0) allowed one run and seven hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Mark Teixeira hit a solo homer, his third, but New York failed to win its third straight.

Making his second start of the season, Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda (1-1) allowed three runs, two earned, and five hits in six innings.

METS 2, MARLINS 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Kevin Plawecki grounded a tiebreaking, two-run single through a drawn-in infield in the seventh inning, and New York beat Miami to stop a four-game losing streak.

Logan Verrett, starting in place of injured pitcher Jacob deGrom, allowed three hits in six shutout innings, and Hansel Robles and Jerry Blevins (1-0) combined to escape a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the seventh.

Miami's Adam Conley struck out a career-high nine in six scoreless innings, but Dustin McGowan (0-1) faltered in the bottom half. Wilmer Flores singled, took second on a wild pitch and third on Asdrubal Cabrera's single. McGowan retired Juan Lagares on a comebacker, but Plawecki singled just past the outstretched glove of shortstop Miguel Rojas for his first hit this season.

ANGELS 5, ATHLETICS 1

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Matt Shoemaker pitched one-hit ball for six innings and Los Angeles beat Oakland for its fourth straight win.

Mike Trout had three hits and scored three runs as the Angels finished a three-game sweep.

Marcus Semien hit his third home run in two days for the A's. Oakland fell to 1-6 at home.

Shoemaker (1-1) gave a single in the second inning to Danny Valencia. He struck out five and walked three.

Eric Surkamp (0-1) went 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits.

MARINERS 4, RANGERS 2

SEATTLE (AP) - Dae-Ho Lee hit a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting Seattle over Texas for its first win of the year at Safeco Field.

The right-handed hitting Lee, who spent the last four years in Japan after 11 seasons in his native South Korea, came on to bat for Adam Lind against left-hander Jake Diekman (0-1). Lee launched an 0-2 pitch deep over the left-field wall for his second homer.

Steve Cishek (1-1) pitched two innings.

BREWERS 6, CARDINALS 4

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Domingo Santana hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning, Chase Anderson threw six innings without an earned run and Milwaukee beat St. Louis.

Santana connected off closer Trevor Rosenthal (0-1) with two out to break a 4-4 tie.

Jeremy Jeffress pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

St. Louis' Brandon Moss tied the game 4-4 with a leadoff, pinch-hit homer in the eighth off reliever Michael Blazek (1-0).

PHILLIES 2, PADRES 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Maikel Franco homered, doubled and drove in both runs and Jerad Eickhoff struck out nine in seven scoreless innings to lead Philadelphia over San Diego.

Eickhoff (1-1) gave up four hits and walked none. He did it while displaying the power he showed at the end of last season when he fanned 10 in each of his final two starts.

Franco connected off Colin Rea (0-1) in the first for his second homer of the season. He hit an RBI double in the third.

BOSTON (AP) J.J. Hardy had a pair of two-run home runs, Mark Trumbo added another and the Baltimore Orioles pounded the Boston Red Sox 9-5 on Tuesday night to win their seventh straight game to begin the season.

The Orioles are the only remaining undefeated team in the majors, and this is their best start since moving to Baltimore in 1954 - the franchise went 9-0 as the St. Louis Browns to start the 1944 season.

Trumbo's homer off Clay Buchholz (0-1) was his second in two days. It was part of a three-run sixth inning that put the Orioles in front.

Hardy curled Buchholz's fastball inside the right field foul pole for his first homer in the fourth, then got his second off Robbie Ross in the seventh.

Mike Wright (1-0) made his season debut after having it delayed by a rainout. He went five innings, gave up four runs and struck out four.

David Ortiz hit his third homer of the season.

DIAMONDBACKS 4, DODGERS 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and drove in another run, and Arizona spoiled Los Angeles' home opener Tuesday in Vin Scully's final season.

Goldschmidt gave the D-backs a 2-1 lead with his second homer of the season off Chris Hatcher (1-1), who then gave up a two-out double to Welington Castillo before issuing consecutive walks to Jake Lamb (intentional) and Yasmany Tomas that loaded the bases. Hatcher departed to boos.

Arizona added two more runs in the ninth on Socrates Brito's triple and Goldschmidt's groundout to shortstop.

Kenta Maeda allowed five hits over six scoreless innings, struck out four and walked one in becoming the second Japanese pitcher to start a Dodgers home opener since Hideo Nomo in 1996 and 2004.

Tyler Clippard (2-0) gave up one hit in one inning and striking out one. Brad Ziegler pitched the ninth to earn his first save.

ROYALS 3, ASTROS 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Lorenzo Cain hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Kansas Cityheld on for a win over Houston.

Alcides Escobar and Mike Moustakas hit consecutive singles to start the game before Cain connected on a full-count, 91-mph fastball off Mike Fiers (0-1) to make it 3-0.

The Astros got within 1 in the bottom of the inning after an RBI double by Colby Rasmus followed by a run-scoring single by Tyler White.

Kris Medlen (1-0) allowed six hits and two runs with seven strikeouts in five innings in his 2016 debut. Wade Davis walked two players with one out in the ninth before retiring Jose Altuve and George Springer for his third save.

YANKEES 3, BLUE JAYS 2

TORONTO (AP) - Brian McCann homered before leaving with a bruised left big toe, Jacoby Ellsbury singled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning and the New Yorkbeat Toronto.

Johnny Barbato (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning for his first major league win in the first game between these AL East rivals this season. The Yankees lost 13 of 19 meetings with Toronto last year.

McCann tried to keep playing after being hit by a foul tip in the middle innings, but Austin Romine took over in the ninth. X-rays taken at the stadium were negative. Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo said the team was ''comfortable with that diagnosis,'' and no further tests were scheduled.

McCann finished 2 for 3 with a walk and scored twice. Andrew Miller got his second save.

Ellsbury's bloop single off left-hander Brett Cecil (0-2) scored Chase Headley from third base, helping the Yankees hand the slumping Blue Jays their fifth loss in six games.

MARLINS 2, METS 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Dee Gordon sparked the decisive rally with a single on the 16th pitch of his gritty at-bat and Miami edged New York to win a much-anticipated pitching matchup that mostly lived up to its billing.

Noah Syndergaard struck out 12 for the slumping Mets and left with the score tied at 1 after seven innings. Miami ace Jose Fernandez recovered from a shaky start and went five innings.

Derek Dietrich had an RBI single in his first start of the season for the Marlins, and pinch-hitter Martin Prado delivered a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth against Jerry Blevins. Gordon stole second base and scored the tiebreaking run after leading off with a single on the 16th pitch from Jim Henderson (0-1).

David Phelps (2-0) fanned three in two hitless innings, and A.J. Ramos got three outs for his second save.

GIANTS 7, ROCKIES 2

DENVER (AP) - Trevor Brown hit a pair of two-run homers and Jeff Samardzija tossed eight solid innings to get his first win for San Francisco.

Hunter Pence also hit a two-run home run to help San Francisco win for the fourth time in five games.

Brown started at catcher in place of banged-up Buster Posey. He hit a two-run homer off Tyler Chatwood in the sixth and another off reliever Jason Gurka in the eighth.

It was Brown's first multihomer game, and his four RBIs were also a career high. His only other home run this season broke up a no-hit bid in the eighth inning against Chris Hatcher of the Dodgers.

Samardzija (1-0) signed a five-year deal in the offseason. He tamed the Rockies in hitter-friendly Coors Field by scattering eight hits and striking out five.

TIGERS 8, PIRATES 2

DETROIT (AP) - Justin Upton had four hits, including a first-inning home run off a camera well above center field, and Detroit beat Pittsburgh.

Upton entered batting .227 with 10 strikeouts in 22 at-bats, then raised his average to .333 with the 11th game of four hits or more in his big league career. According to MLB's Statcast system, the home run would have gone 451 feet had it landed unimpeded.

J.D. Martinez had his second career four-hit game, and Ian Kinsler homered.

Anibal Sanchez (2-0) gave up two runs, four hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings, improving to 3-5 in eight starts against the Pirates.

NATIONALS 2, BRAVES 1

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bryce Harper sliced a two-run double to left with two outs in the eighth inning, lifting Washington to its 12th consecutive home victory against Atlanta.

Harper, the reigning NL MVP, broke a scoreless tie by connecting with the first pitch delivered by left-handed reliever Eric O'Flaherty after righty Jim Johnson (0-2) put two runners on. The hit hooked toward the line and away from left fielder Jeff Francoeur, who dove in a bid to make a catch but had the ball go off his glove.

It made a winner of Blake Treinen (2-0), who got Francoeur to ground into a bases-loaded 6-4-3 double play to end the eighth.

RAYS 5, INDIANS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Logan Forsythe and Evan Longoria both hit two-run home runs in the eighth inning, and Tampa Bay beat Cleveland.

Matt Moore gave up one run, five hits, one walk and had five strikeouts in seven innings for the Rays. Xavier Cedeno (1-0) pitched a perfect eighth.

Kluber (0-2) allowed three runs and four hits over 7 2/3 innings. The 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner struck out six and walked two.

PHILLIES 3, PADRES 0

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Charlie Morton pitched sharply into the seventh, Odubel Herrera hit an RBI triple in the sixth andPhiladelphia beat San Diego.

Morton (1-1) allowed three hits, walked four and struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings for his first win with the Phillies.

Padres left-hander Robbie Erlin (1-1) retired the first 10 batters and didn't allow a hit until Freddy Galvis got a hard single to center with two outs in the fifth.

David Hernandez worked the eighth and Jeanmar Gomez finished for his third save in three tries.
