CINCINNATI (AP) Anthony Rizzo homered for the third consecutive game on Friday night, and Jon Lester gave a fitting follow-up to Jake Arrieta's no-hitter by going seven innings and leading the Chicago Cubs to an 8-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs improved to 13-4, the best record in the majors and one of the best starts in the last 100 years. They also opened 13-4 in 1908 - the last time they won the World Series - and in 1970. The 1907 team went 14-3 on its way to a Series title.

Arrieta threw his second career no-hitter in the series opener on Thursday night, a 16-0 win. Lester (2-1) limited the Reds to five hits, including Zack Cozart's solo homer, and one walk.

Rizzo hit a solo shot - his team-high sixth - off Jon Moscot (0-1).

WHITE SOX 5, RANGERS 0

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago pulled off its first triple play in nearly 10 years to secure Jose Quintana's scoreless outing and beat Texas.

Quintana retired 11 straight through six innings until he loaded the bases on Prince Fielder's double, Adrian Beltre's single and a walk. Mitch Moreland drilled a ball down the right field line that Adam Eaton caught on the run as the runners took off.

Eaton threw to first to get Ian Desmond, and the White Sox eventually got Fielder in a rundown between third and home to finish the play. It was the first time Texas got caught in a triple play since 1991 and the first one the White Sox turned since Sept. 18, 2006, against Detroit.

Quintana (2-1) allowed just four hits over seven innings to help snap the Rangers' four-game winning streak. Brett Lawrie had a two-run double in a three-run sixth off Rangers starter Martin Perez (0-2).

RED SOX 6, ASTROS 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Steven Wright pitched into the seventh inning, and Mookie Betts finished a home run shy of the cycle for Boston.

Betts tripled in the first and ninth innings, scoring both times. He had an RBI double in the second and singled and scored in the fourth. He flied out in the sixth.

Wright (1-2) had his third straight good start to begin the season, allowing one run - no earned - and four hits with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. He did walk five, with Carlos Gomez scoring on a passed ball in the seventh.

The knuckleballer has gone at least six innings in each of his starts and has allowed two runs or less in each of his starts this season.

Craig Kimbrel got Carlos Correa to end the game for his fifth save.

NATIONALS 8, TWINS 4

WASHINGTON (AP) - Jayson Werth hit a home run and robbed one in left field and Gio Gonzalez pitched six-plus innings for Washington.

Jose Lobaton drove in three runs with a triple and a single, and National League batting leader Daniel Murphy had two more hits for first-place Washington, which has won six straight at home.

Gonzalez (1-0) enjoyed offensive support for the first time in three starts while allowing three runs - two earned - on six hits.

In the third, Byron Buxton's high fly gave Werth time to get back to the fence. He timed his jump perfectly, getting his glove just above the wall and bringing Buxton's drive down with him.

In the fifth, Werth hit a solo shot to left center, his third.

Minnesota's Kyle Gibson (0-3) lasted just three innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits.

METS 6, BRAVES 3

ATLANTA (AP) - Curtis Granderson homered twice, including a grand slam, to drive in five runs and Matt Harvey got his first win of the season for New York.

Granderson's sixth career grand slam was a line-drive shot he pulled into the right-field seats off Bud Norris (1-3) in the second inning. Granderson had three hits, including another homer off Norris in the fourth, giving him four on the season.

New York has 21 homers in its last seven games - the most in a seven-game span in franchise history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Harvey (1-3) ended a streak of four straight losing decisions, including his first three starts this year. He needed 101 pitches to make it through five innings as he allowed two runs and seven hits and one walk.

Jeurys Familia pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

ROYALS 4, ORIOLES 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Chris Young struck out 10 in six innings, Mike Moustakas homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs for Kansas City.

Young (1-3), who came in with a 7.90 ERA and had allowed 20 hits in 13 2/3 innings, baffled the Orioles. Young recorded his sixth career double-figure strikeout game and his first since April 24, 2008, when he struck out 10 against San Francisco while with San Diego.

Young gave up two runs and four hits, including a sixth inning leadoff home run to Manny Machado, who extended his hitting streak to a career-high 15 games.

Wade Davis pitched a spotless ninth to log his seventh save in as many chances.

Moustakas hit his sixth home run on Yovani Gallardo's second pitch with Alcides Escobar aboard. Moustakas had a two-out, RBI double in the second off Gallardo (1-1).

PHILLIES 5, BREWERS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Maikel Franco homered twice and Aaron Nola pitched seven strong innings as Philadelphia defeated Milwaukee.

The Phillies snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Brewers.

Franco hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Philadelphia a 4-1 lead. He blasted a solo shot over the Brewers bullpen in left in the seventh to stake the Phillies to a four-run lead.

Nola (1-2) allowed four hits and retired 11 consecutive batters at one point and 16 of 17 to close out his outing.

Milwaukee starter Zach Davies (0-2) surrendered four runs and nine hits over six innings.

YANKEES 6, RAYS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Jacoby Ellsbury stole home, a daring dash that seemed to startle most everyone at Yankee Stadium and helped New York rush past Tampa Bay.

Ellsbury became the first Yankees player to pull off a straight steal of home since Derek Jeter in 2001. And Ellsbury's timing in the fifth inning was really surprising: He took off with two outs on a full-count pitch to Brett Gardner, who let it go high for ball four.

Ellsbury added a two-run double in eighth. Brian McCann hit an early two-run homer, then sliced a tiebreaking single in the sixth as the Yankees ended a three-game losing skid.

Ivan Nova (1-0) won in relief of CC Sabathia. Dellin Betances struck all three batters in the eighth and Andrew Miller closed for his fourth save as a light sprinkle fell.

ATHLETICS 8, BLUE JAYS 5

TORONTO (AP) - Chris Coghlan hit a three-run home run, Stephen Vogt had three hits and Oakland won its sixth straight.

The Athletics snapped a six-game skid at Rogers Centre and set season-highs in runs and hits (14).

Sonny Gray (3-1) allowed three runs and six hits in seven innings as Oakland improved to 7-0 on the road, its best start since opening 8-0 away from home in 1990.

Kevin Pillar's two-run single off Sean Doolittle pulled Toronto to 6-5 in the eighth. Khris Davis replied with an RBI single in the ninth and a second run scored as the ball skipped past left fielder Ezequiel Carrera for an error and rolled to the wall.

Ryan Madson finished for his AL-leading seventh save.

Aaron Sanchez (1-1) allowed a career-worst six runs in 4 1/3 innings as the Blue Jays lost their third straight.

INDIANS 2, TIGERS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Carlos Santana and Marlon Byrd homered off Justin Verlander, lifting Cleveland to a victory.

Josh Tomlin (2-0) allowed one run and four hits over 6 2/3 innings. Zach McAllister and Bryan Shaw followed with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Cody Allen pitched the ninth, getting Miguel Cabrera to pop up in foul territory for the first out, and earned his fifth save in as many chances.

Verlander (1-2) gave up four hits, but two were costly because they went over the fence in right field. He walked two and struck out 10.

Cleveland had lost three of four. Detroit has dropped four of its last five games.

Blue Jays' Colabello suspended 80 games

Blue Jays first baseman Chris Colabello was suspended for 80 games without pay on Friday for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Colabello tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, a performance-enhancing substance.

After a breakout campaign a year ago, the 32-year-old Colabello had been struggling at the plate this season, batting .069 (2-for-29) in 10 games.

Colabello, who played seven seasons of independant ball before signing with Minnesota in 2012, batted .321 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs in 101 games last season for the American League East-champion Blue Jays. He hit .282 and slugged a pair of homers in Toronto's postseason run.

MLB Capsules (April 22, 2016)

CINCINNATI (AP) Jake Arrieta pitched his second no-hitter in a span of 11 regular-season starts for the Chicago Cubs, shutting down the Cincinnati Reds in a 16-0 rout Thursday night.

The reigning NL Cy Young winner threw the first no-hitter of the Major League Baseball season.

Arrieta (4-0) struck out six, walked four and allowed only six balls hit out of the infield. He threw 119 pitches, retiring Eugenio Suarez on a routine fly to right field to end it.

Arrieta threw his first career no-hitter last Aug. 30 at Dodger Stadium, beating Los Angeles 2-0. That gem came as Arrieta put together one of the best pitching stretches in club history.

The Reds hadn't been held hitless in a regular-season game since 1971, when Rick Wise did it for Philadelphia at Riverfront Stadium. In the 2010 NL playoffs, Roy Halladay of the Phillies pitched a no-hitter against Cincinnati.

Arrieta is among several pitchers in the last decade to pitch two no-hitters. The 30-year-old righty is on the list with Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Tim Lincecum and Homer Bailey, who threw the only other no-hitter at Great American Ball Park on July 2, 2013 against the Giants.

Arrieta is the first Cubs pitcher to win his first four starts in a season since Greg Maddux went 5-0 in 2006. Ken Holtzman is the only other Cubs pitcher to throw more than one no-hitter in the modern era, doing it in 1969 and 1971.

Kris Bryant homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs. Arrieta contributed a pair of singles and a walk.

ROYALS 4, TIGERS 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Edinson Volqueztossed seven sharp innings, Mike Moustakas went deep and Kansas City Royals pounded Mike Pelfrey.

Volquez (3-0) retired the first eight batters and only had to wiggle out of one jam, whenAlcides Escobar let a grounder go through his legs in the fourth inning. The Tigers went on to load the bases before Volquez struck out Jarrod Saltalamacchia to end it.

Escobar atoned for his gaffe with a sacrifice fly off Pelfrey (0-3) in the bottom half of the fourth. Volquez scattered five hits and a walk while striking out five.

RANGERS 7, ASTROS 4

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Ian Desmond's first homer of the season was good for three runs and A.J. Griffin outpitched 2015 American League Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel as Texas completed a three-game sweep.

The Rangers have won four straight and have swept three straight home series from theAstros for 10 total games.

Griffin (2-0) trailed 1-0 two batters in after giving up back-to-back doubles to Jose Altuve and George Springer but allowed only one other run and four hits through six innings.

Keuchel (2-2) gave up season highs of six runs and 13 hits in six innings.

ATHLETICS 7, YANKEES 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Khris Davis and Coco Crisphomered on consecutive pitches, backing Rich Hill's sox strong innings, and Oakland completed a three-game sweep.

With the score tied at 2-all to start the seventh inning, Davis greeted reliever Chasen Shreve (1-1) by sending his first pitch deep over the center-field wall. Crisp then lined the first pitch he saw into the second deck in left for the A's first back-to-back home runs of the season.

The 36-year-old Hill (2-2) kept his former club's anemic offense off-balance with a big, sweeping curve, limiting them to just two runs and three hits while striking out 10.

Oakland won its fifth straight and remained the only team in baseball with a perfect road record. It was the first time they swept a series in the Bronx since 2006.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, GIANTS 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Yasmani Tomas hit a go-ahead home run in the fourth, Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs, and Arizona beat San Francisco for a four-game sweep.

Tyler Wagner (1-0) allowed two hits in five relief innings of Shelby Miller as Arizona wrapped up a 7-3 road trip with a fifth straight win and first four-game sweep ever in the Giants' 17th-year ballpark.

The benches cleared and both teams were warned in the eighth after Josh Osich hit Arizona's David Peralta with a pitch for the second straight day. Peralta walked toward the mound, but there were no ejections.

Johnny Cueto (3-1) was tagged for his first loss since joining the Giants on a $130 million, six-year contract.

PIRATES 11, PADRES 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Gerrit Cole pitched six impressive innings for his first win this season and Pittsburgh beat San Diego to avoid a three-game sweep.

Cole (1-2), who grew up in Newport Beach and pitched at UCLA, held San Diego to four singles while striking out seven and walking none. Only two Padres baserunners reached scoring position against Cole.

After scoring three runs against James Shields (0-3) through four innings, thePirates piled on with eight runs against two relievers in the seventh. John Jaso and Starling Marte had RBI doubles in the big inning while David Freese and Francisco Cervelli had two-run singles.

Leonel Campos, called up earlier in the day from Triple-A El Paso, allowed seven runs, five earned, while getting only one out in the big inning. He walked one, hit a batter and had a batter reach on a strikeout-passed ball.

ORIOLES 3, BLUE JAYS 2

BALTIMORE (AP) - Manny Machado doubled in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, and Baltimore rallied.

Rookie Joey Rickard had three hits and scored the decisive run for the Orioles, who won despite leaving 13 on base and going 3 for 14 with runners in scoring position.

Baltimore erased a 2-1 deficit in the seventh before taking the lead for the first time in the eighth.

Rickard singled off Brett Cecil (0-3) with one out and moved up on a passed ball by Russell Martin. Machado then hit an opposite-field fly to right that dropped between two fielders, scoring Rickard with an unearned run.

Darren O'Day (1-0) got three straight outs in the eighth and Zach Britton worked the ninth for his fourth save.

ANGELS 3, WHITE SOX 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Mike Trout hit a two-run homer and reached base four times, helping back Jered Weaver as Los Angeles beat Chicago to close a 10-game trip.

Melky Cabrera's solo homer in the seventh was the lone run off Weaver (1-1), who allowed three hits in seven innings despite velocity that topped out at 85 mph.

Trout connected on a fastball from John Danks (0-3), driving the ball 419 feet to left-center with two outs in the fifth - he has been 0 for 8 with four strikeouts against Danks. Trout also singled and walked twice.

DODGERS 2, BRAVES 1, 10 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) - Yasmani Grandal doubled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and Los Angeles overcame a not-quite-overpowering performance by Clayton Kershaw.

Enrique Hernandez singled with one out against Alexi Ogando (1-1) and came around to score on Grandal's shot off the center-field wall. Chris Hatcher (2-1) worked a scoreless ninth before Kenley Jansen earned his seventh save.

Coming off his first career save, Matt Wisler pitched four-hit ball over 6 2/3 innings for the Braves.

Both teams scored in the first, and that was it until Grandal gave the Dodgers their second straight extra-inning win over the Braves.

Kershaw came in with a 1.64 ERA. The Braves got to the three-time Cy Young winner for 10 hits in eight innings, only the fourth time in 246 career starts that he's given up double figures. He struck out 10.

TWINS 8, BREWERS 1

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Ricky Nolasco struck out seven and allowed five hits over six-plus innings, and Minnesota snapped a season-opening, seven-game road losing streak.

Miguel Sano hit his second homer of the year and an added an RBI single for the Twins, who were the only winless road team in the majors entering the afternoon.

Nolasco (1-0) allowed an RBI double to Ryan Braun in the first before settling down and retiring 16 of the next 18 Brewers hitters. Taylor Jungmann (0-3) struggled for the Brewers, allowing a career-high six walks, four hits and three runs over four-plus innings.

The Twins had classic songs by pop superstar Prince blaring over the audio system in the visiting Miller Park clubhouse. ''Little Red Corvette'' played on a loop before someone switched the track to ''Purple Rain.'' The Minnesota native died Thursday.

RAYS 12, RED SOX 8

BOSTON (AP) - Evan Longoria and Curt Casali homered off David Price, and Tampa Bay chased their ex-teammate in the fourth inning.

The Rays gave up five runs in the first inning but scored six in the fourth to take a three-run lead. It was tied 8-all in the eighth when Steven Souza Jr. doubled home the go-ahead run.

The Rays, who entered the game with the fewest runs scored in baseball, topped their previous season high of seven.

Erasmo Ramirez (4-0) struck out Mookie Betts with the bases loaded in the seventh, then pitched out of a two-on, one-out jam in the eighth. Alex Colome got two outs for his third save.

MARLINS 5, NATIONALS 1

MIAMI (AP) - Ichiro Suzuki had two hits, scored twice and made two sliding catches in right field for Miami, who used a makeshift lineup to beat Max Scherzer and Washington.

Bryce Harper hit his eighth home run for Washington, boosting his majors-leading RBIs total to 22.

The 42-year-old Suzuki batted leadoff for the first time this season and started in right field for a slumping Giancarlo Stanton, who was given the day off.

Also sitting out for the Marlins at the start of the series finale were Dee Gordon and J.T. Realmuto. But the lineup shakeup produced four runs in the first two innings against Scherzer (2-1).

Tom Koehler (1-2) and four relievers combined on a two-hitter, while Scherzer allowed five runs in five innings.

MARINERS 10, INDIANS 7, 10 INNINGS

CLEVELAND (AP) - Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning off Cody Allen, lifting Seattle.

Cano had an early single and then an RBI double in the sixth before connecting with two outs for his sixth home run this season. He had been hitless in seven previous at-bats against Allen (0-1).

Steve Clevenger, who hit a two-run homer in the second, drew a leadoff walk from Allen. Franklin Gutierrez walked on a full count with two outs before Cano homered to dead center.

Tony Zych (1-0) pitched the ninth for his first major league win. Steve Cishek worked the 10th for his second save in as many days.

ATLANTA - The Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday called up reliever Luis Avilan from Triple-A Oklahoma City for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Avilan will temporarily take the spot of RHP Louis Coleman, who was placed on the bereavement list due to the death of his grandfather.

Avilan spent foyr seasons pitching for the Braves before being dealt to the Dodgers last year.

Nationals RHP Ross leaves game against Marlins with blister

MIAMI - Washington Nationals RHP Joe Ross left the team's 3-1 victory over the Miami Marlins in the third inning on Wednesday with a blister on his right middle finger.

"I think it should be fine, hopefully," Ross said after the game with a band-aid on the damaged finger.

Ross was replaced in the bottom of the inning by Yusmeiro Petit.

"That was a big-time job by Petit and all our bullpen,'' Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "We were sitting on the edge of our seats."

CHICAGO (AP) Chris Sale became the major leagues' first four-game winner, allowing two hits in seven innings to lead the Chicago White Sox over the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 Wednesday.

Sale (4-0) allowed a pair of singles by Mike Trout and an unearned run. David Robertson got four outs for his sixth save in as many attempts, allowing Trout's third hit and completing a fourth-hitter.

Chicago improved to 10-5. Last season, the White Sox began 10-14 and didn't reach double digits in victories until May 26.

Tyler Saladino homered in the first off Garrett Richards (0-3), who gave up two runs - one earned - and four hits in 6 1/3 innings.

RANGERS 2, ASTROS 1

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Cole Hamelsextended his career-best winning streak to 10 games, Rougned Odor had a two-run homer and Texas beat Houston.

Hamels hit the first two batters of the game, gave up three straight singles to start the second and surrendered a leadoff hit in the third. But the Astros couldn't score, helping Hamels (3-0) by making an out on the bases in each inning.

The ace left-hander allowed rookie Tyler White's fifth home run in the sixth but combined with reliever Sam Dyson to strand the tying run at third with one out in the seventh.

Jake Diekman got called third strikes on Colby Rasmus and Evan Gattis with the tying run at second in the eighth, and closer Shawn Tolleson pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Doug Fister (1-2) allowed Odor's second homer in the second inning as the Astros lost their ninth straight at the Rangers.

DIAMONDBACKS 2, GIANTS 1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Zack Greinke andMadison Bumgarner both pitched well in a showdown of NL West aces, but Welington Castillo hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help Arizona beat San Francisco.

Greinke (1-2) got his first win with Arizona and remained undefeated against the Giants- he's 8-0 in 11 starts against San Francisco and 3-0 against Bumgarner. He gave up a run on six hits over 6 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out seven.

Brandon Drury added two hits for theDiamondbacks, who won their fourth straight and have taken 11 of their last 13 in San Francisco.

Bumgarner (1-2) went seven innings, giving up the two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out eight as the Giants lost their fourth straight and seventh of eight.

Brad Ziegler earned his fourth save, extending his team record to 32 consecutive.

REDS 6, ROCKIES 5

CINCINNATI (AP) - Tucker Barnhart hit a game-ending single off Christian Bergman(0-3) over a five-man infield in the ninth as Cincinnati overcame a bullpen meltdown and took advantage of a Colorado baserunning blunder.

Colorado appeared to tie the score 3-3 in the seventh when Dustin Garneau doubled with two outs and pinch-hitter Ryan Raburnsingled to right. But Raburn was called out on appeal by umpire Adrian Johnson for missing third base.

But Colorado tied the score in a three-run eighth when the first two batters reached against Blake Wood, Gerardo Parra hit into a run-scoring forceout off Tony Cingrani, and Paulsen hit a two-run double.

Ross Ohlendorf (3-2) pitched a perfect ninth.

CARDINALS 5, CUBS 3

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Matt Holliday homered, Carlos Martinez (0-3) allowed one run and three hits in seven innings and St. Louis avoided getting swept in the three-game series.

Trevor Rosenthal got his fourth save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth. It was his 100th career save.

Kyle Hendricks (1-2) gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

ATHLETICS 5, YANKEES 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Kendall Graveman (1-1) tossed three-hit ball for 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight for Oakland, 5-0 in the road this season. Slumping New York (5-8) has lost six of seven and is last in the AL East.

Billy Burns had three hits, Khris Davis delivered a two-run single and the A's won their fourth straight following a four-game slide.

Burns and Chris Coghlan hit consecutive doubles off Nathan Eovaldi (0-2) to start a three-run fourth inning. Josh Reddick had an RBI single and Stephen Vogt added a sacrifice fly.

RED SOX 7, RAYS 3

BOSTON (AP) - Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer and David Ortiz drove in three runs with a pair of doubles to back Rick Porcello as Boston stopped a three-game skid.

Porcello (3-0) allowed three runs and six hits in seven innings, struck out nine and walked one. He held the Rays scoreless on two hits through five innings while the Red Sox opened a 6-0 lead against Chris Archer (0-4).

Archer gave up six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings as the Rays' three-game winning streak ended. He is 0-7 with a 6.39 ERA in his last 10 starts.

DODGERS 5, BRAVES 3, 10 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) - Justin Turner gave Los Angeles the lead with a 10th-inning double to snap Atlanta's four-game winning streak.

The Braves failed in a bid to become the first team to win five straight games after starting a season 0-9, according to STATS.

Braves rookie center fielder Mallex Smith, charging toward left field, made a diving attempt for Turner's sinking drive off Jason Grilli (1-1) but the ball bounced off his glove. Smith slipped and crawled before finally retrieving the ball as Chase Utley, who led off with a single, scored from second. Yasmani Grandal added a run-scoring single off Alexi Ogando.

Daniel Castro's two-run single in the fourth gave the Braves a 3-0 lead. Adrian Gonzalezhit a two-run homer off Eric O'Flaherty to tie the game in the sixth.

Joe Blanton (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth.Kenley Jansen got the final three outs for his sixth save.

MARINERS 2, INDIANS 1

CLEVELAND (AP) - Taijuan Walker (1-0) allowed just an unearned run and three hits over six innings, and Norichika Aoki had a two-run triple in the second.

Jason Kipnis' sacrifice fly in the third scored Cleveland's run, which was unearned thanks to first baseman Adam Lind's fielding error.

Danny Salazar (2-1) allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings.

MIAMI (AP) - Bryce Harper doubled in a run and Yusmeiro Petit (1-0) allowed one run in four innings of relief after starter Joe Rossdeparted in the third inning because of a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.

Harper, who began the night leading the majors with 20 RBIs, hit a two-out double in the third to score Ross from first base for a 2-0 lead.

Michael Taylor homered with two outs in the fifth off Wei-Yin Chen (0-1). The ball wouldn't have cleared the center field fence last year, before the Marlins Park dimensions were shortened.

Washington's Daniel Murphy, who entered leading the majors in hitting, went 2 for 4 and hiked his average to .429.

TIGERS 3, ROYALS 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Jordan Zimmermann (3-0) scattered seven hits over 6 1/3 innings in his third straight scoreless start, and Victor Martinez drove in the 1,000th run of his career.

Francisco Rodriguez served up back-to-back homers to Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez in the ninth before striking out Mike Moustakas to leave runners on first and second. It was K-Rod's fourth save of the season and 390th overall, matching Dennis Eckersley for sixth-most.

Ian Kinsler drove the other two runs for Detroit. Ian Kennedy (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

ORIOLES 4, BLUE JAYS 3

BALTIMORE (AP) - Caleb Joseph doubled off Joe Biagini (0-1) with two outs in the 10th inning and scored on Josh Thole's passed ball.

Mychal Givens (1-0) worked the 10th for Baltimore.

Josh Donaldson hit his sixth home run and Edwin Encarnacion had two RBIs for the Blue Jays, whose three-game winning streak ended.

PHILLIES 5, METS 4, 11 INNINGS

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Peter Bourjos drove in the winning run on an infield single with two outs in the 11th inning to lift Philadelphia over New York.

Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda hit consecutive homers and Neil Walker had four hits for the Mets.

Freddy Galvis hit a two-run homer for thePhillies, who avoided a three-game sweep. Jeanmar Gomez (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings for the win.

Galvis ripped a one-out double to right off Hansel Robles (0-1) with one out in the 11th.

A few batters later, Bourjos hit a sharp bouncer down the third-base line. David Wright made a backhanded grab but the speedy ninth-place hitter easily beat the throw and Galvis scored.

PADRES 8, PIRATES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Drew Pomeranz struck out a career-high 10 and held Pittsburgh to four singles and Matt Kemp homered to lead San Diego.

The Padres have taken the first two of three games against the Pirates for their first home series win this season.

Pomeranz's previous career high in strikeouts was eight, accomplished twice before, most recently Thursday at Philadelphia. Only two Pirates baserunner reached scoring position against Pomeranz (2-1) over 6 2/3 innings.

San Diego roughed up lefty Jeff Locke (0-2) for eight runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings.

Kemp hit his fifth homer leading off the fourth. It was estimated at 441 feet off Locke into the Padres' bullpen beyond the fence in left-center.

BREWERS 10, TWINS 5

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Aaron Hill, Chris Carter and Domingo Santana each hit home runs to help Jimmy Nelson and Milwaukee beat Minnesota.

Nelson, who had never faced the Twins, allowed four runs on 10 hits. He struck out six and walked one to keep the Twins winless in seven games on the road.

Hill led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot off Ryan Pressly (1-1) after the Twins tied it at 4 in the sixth on Oswaldo Arcia's two-run homer and Eddie Rosario's home run.

Brian Dozer chased Nelson (3-1) with a double down the first-base line. Carlos Torres walked the next two batters, but escaped the jam when he struck out Arcia.

Reds recall RHP Drew Hayes; option RHP Robert Stephenson

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds promoted RHP Drew Hayes from the Triple-A Louisville Bats.

The Reds also optioned RHP Robert Stephenson to Louisville.

RHP Keyvius Sampson was designated for assignment to Louisville to make room for Hayes on the Reds' 40-man roster.

Hayes was the Reds' 11th-round draft pick in 2010. He was 1-0 with a 6.23 earned-run average and one save in three games with Louisville this season.

As for Stephenson, he allowed three hits and one run in seven innings as an emergency starter in Cincinnati's 4-3 win against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.

With Tuesday's win, Stephenson improved his career major league record to 2-0.
