The Triple-A Iowa Cubs topped the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, 2-1, on the road on Saturday. After allowing a run, Iowa pitching set down the final 13 Memphis batters to hold on for a one-run victory.
LF Mark Zagunis (.262) went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. He has hit .307 (23-for-75) in May after batting just .212 (14for-66) in April.
2B Tommy La Stella (.265) was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk, his fourth multi-hit game with Iowa and first since April 25.
RHPs Conor Mullee (1.0 IP), Dylan Floro (2.0 IP, SO) and Justin Grimm (1.0 IP, 2 SO) combined for 4.0 perfect innings to close out Iowa’s win.
Iowa faces Memphis again on Sunday with RHP Seth Frankoff (0-2, 3.16) getting the start for Iowa.
Smilies continue to top Shuckers: The Double-A Tennessee Smokies continued their clutch hitting, winning in walk-off fashion vs. the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, 6-5. The Smokies have topped Biloxi in four-straight games with three one-run wins in that span.
Myrtle Beach beats Carolina: The Double-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and cruised to an 8-2 win at Carolina.
