LEADING OFF: Cano comes off DL; Harvey returns home

A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

---

HE'S BACK

All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano is expected to come off the disabled list when Seattle begins an interleague series at NL East-leading Washington. Cano has been sidelined with a strained quadriceps. The Mariners, last in the AL West, have dropped three straight and seven of 10.

HOME SWEET HOME?

It will be interesting to see how Matt Harvey is received by Mets fans when the embattled pitcher makes his first start at Citi Field since serving a three-day suspension for skipping a game following a late night on the town. Harvey (2-3, 5.56 ERA) apologized and went 0-1 in two starts on the team's most recent road trip. He is 0-3 in his last six outings and hasn't won since April 11. This time, Harvey faces Jhoulys Chacin (4-3) and the struggling Padres.

REMEMBER WHEN

The Giants and Cubs continue their four-game set at Wrigley Field with a rematch of Game 1 in last year's NL Division Series. San Francisco right-hander Johnny Cueto and Chicago lefty Jon Lester got the 2016 series started with a terrific pitchers' duel. Cueto struck out 10 while throwing eight innings of three-hit ball. Lester allowed five hits in eight innings. The Cubs won 1-0 on Javier Baez's eighth-inning homer. Cueto was all set to pitch Game 5 at Wrigley Field, but the Cubs rallied for a series-clinching 6-5 win in Game 4 on the way to their first championship in 108 years. "I'm telling you, man, Game 4 pretty much won the World Series, I thought, versus San Francisco," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Monday. "I did not want to see Mr. Cueto pitching back here again."

ON A ROLL

Houston right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (4-1, 2.65 ERA) tries to extend a stingy streak when he faces Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and the dangerous Tigers. McCullers has not allowed an earned run in his last three outings. Jordan Zimmermann (4-2, 6.25) pitches for Detroit.

ACES UP

Clayton Kershaw (7-2, 2.15 ERA) starts for the Dodgers against Lance Lynn (4-2, 2.78) and the Cardinals in Los Angeles. There's a fine pitching matchup at Camden Yards, too, where Ervin Santana (6-2, 2.07 ERA) and the Twins face Baltimore right-hander Dylan Bundy (5-2, 2.97).

CHANGE OF PACE

Braves manager Brian Snitker thought it'd make sense to avoid having teams face hard-throwing right-handers Mike Foltynewicz and Julio Teheran in back-to-back games. The obvious remedy to that problem is 42-year-old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, who will start on three days' rest against Pittsburgh. Teheran goes Wednesday. Dickey is 3-4 with a 6.20 ERA in eight career starts on three days' rest.

LEADING OFF: Mets' Harvey returns; Cards go for 7th in a row

By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors today:

HARVEY'S RETURN

Matt Harvey is scheduled to make his first start for the New York Mets since serving a three-day suspension for skipping a game last weekend following a late night on the town. The 28-year-old right-hander acknowledged on Tuesday that he was out after last Friday night's game "past curfew" and then played golf Saturday morning. He did not show up at Citi Field for that night's game against Miami and took "full blame" for that. Harvey was scheduled to start Sunday afternoon, but when he arrived at the ballpark he was sent home by the team. Harvey (2-2), who apologized to his teammates, the fans and the organization, will face the Brewers and Matt Garza (1-0) in Milwaukee.

GOING FOR LUCKY No. 7

St. Louis erased a four-run deficit on Wednesday night and rallied to beat Miami 7-5 for the Cardinals' sixth straight victory. They'll be going for No. 7 in a row on Friday night to kick off an eight-game homestand when right-hander Mike Leake (4-1) takes the mound against the Chicago Cubs. Leake is looking to extend a personal four-game win streak and he'll be opposed by Eddie Butler, who'll be making his Cubs debut after spending the last three seasons with Colorado.

LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK

Minnesota Twins ace right-hander Ervin Santana (5-1, 1.72) will try to rebound from his first loss this season when he faces Indians righty Josh Tomlin (2-3, 7.12) in the opener of a three-game series at Cleveland on Friday night. Santana allowed a season-high six runs in six innings to Boston last Sunday.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE

After Washington's home game against Baltimore was rained out Thursday night, the Nationals announced that they will skip Thursday starter A.J. Cole and keep the same pitching lineup they set in place for their next series against visiting Philadelphia: Tanner Roark, Gio Gonzalez, Max Scherzer. Meanwhile, the Orioles pushed back their starting rotation. Dylan Bundy, Thursday's scheduled starter, will go Friday at Kansas City, followed by Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman.

AIMING FOR YAZ

Albert Pujols will enter the Angels' game against the Detroit Tigers needing two RBIs to tie Carl Yastrzemski for 13th on baseball's career list. Pujols has 1,842 RBIs, including 25 this season for Los Angeles.

ROLLIN' RICK

After ending a four-game losing skid in his last outing, Rick Porcello (2-4) will take the mound for Boston in the opener of a three-game homestand against Tampa Bay, which will start Alex Cobb (2-3). Porcello, the AL Cy Young winner last year, has a 1.69 ERA in his last four starts.

LEADING OFF: Harvey back, Trout still out, Sabathia steps up

By The Associated Press
A look at what's happening all around the majors today:

---

BACK TO WORK

Matt Harvey rejoins the Mets after serving a three-day suspension imposed by the team for not showing up at Citi Field for Saturday's game. New York manager Terry Collins said Harvey will have to explain what happened to his teammates. "You stand up, be accountable and move on. And you know what? People forget about it," Collins said. Harvey was sent home from the ballpark Sunday before his scheduled start against Miami, yet another flap for a star pitcher fined for missing a mandatory team workout before the 2015 playoffs. The right-hander is expected to return to the rotation Friday at Milwaukee.

NOT YET

Angels outfielder Mike Trout is still slowed by a tight left hamstring and isn't ready to play. Trout was out of the lineup for the fourth time in five games for the series opener at Oakland. An MRI on the two-time AL MVP showed no damage. Trout missed only three games in each of the past two seasons. He is hitting .355 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs.

MIGHTY CC AT THE PLATE

Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has hit two of his three career home runs against the Reds, the team he faces in Cincinnati. The big lefty homered off Elizardo Ramirez at Great American Ball Park in 2005 and again off Homer Bailey in 2008 at Miller Park. Sabathia is 0 for 2 this season in interleague play and .214 career with 33 strikeouts in 115 at-bats.

WATCH AND LEARN

Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias has been wild but effective in his first two starts this season, posting an 0.84 ERA but walking eight in 10 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old could learn a thing or two from his next opponent, Ivan Nova. The Pirates right-hander has allowed just four walks in 17 starts since Pittsburgh acquired him from the Yankees last season - a 106 2/3-inning stretch that includes five complete games.

SO LONG, SLUGGER

Ryan Howard might have taken his last swings after Atlanta released the 37-year-old from his contract at Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves signed Howard shortly after the season began, hoping he might boost their bench. But the first baseman hit just .184 with one homer and five RBIs. Howard was the 2006 NL MVP, helped the Phillies win the 2008 World Series and has 382 career home runs.

Mets suspend Harvey for violating team rules; Wilk to start

By CHARLES O'BRIEN
Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Mets have scratched Matt Harvey for his scheduled start Sunday against the Miami Marlins and suspended the right-hander three days for a violation of team rules.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson would not disclose Harvey's violation, saying only that his suspension was effective Saturday and that he had been sent home.

Left-hander Adam Wilk was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to start in Harvey's place.

Harvey considering season-ending surgery

Matt Harvey is apparently considering season-ending
surgery.
NEW YORK – Matt Harvey is suffering from symptoms consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome, according to general manager Sandy Alderson, and is deciding whether to undergo season-ending surgery. Harvey is also weighing a non-surgical injection treatment option.

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a disorder caused by compressed nerves or blood vessels between the collarbone and rib cage. It can result in neck and shoulder pain and numbness.

The Mets sent Harvey to St. Louis for an examination by vascular specialist Dr. Robert Thompson after placing him on the disabled list on Wednesday.

To replace Harvey on the 25-man roster, the Mets on Wednesday recalled RHP Seth Lugo from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.
