Phillies, Nationals rained out; will play DH Sunday

(TSX / STATS) -- WASHINGTON -- The game between the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals was rained out Friday night at Nationals Park in a series between the National League East teams.

The game will be made up Sunday as part of a day-night doubleheader in Washington with games at 1:35 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. The first contest of the three-game series will now be Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

Washington right-hander Tanner Roark (3-1, 3.46 ERA) was slated to face right-hander Nick Pivetta (0-2, 5.40) on Friday. Nationals manager Dusty Baker said just minutes before the game was rained out that Roark would pitch in the Saturday game if the Friday contest was called off. Pivetta will pitch Saturday for the Phillies, who are 13-19.

Pivetta is a former minor league pitcher for the Nationals who has made two major league starts, including one against Washington. He was traded by the Nationals to the Phillies in 2015 for veteran closer Jonathan Papelbon.

First-place Washington (22-12) also had its home game with the Baltimore Orioles rained out on Thursday. That game will be made up June 8.
