Pipeline: Norfolk avoids being swept by Durham

Triple-A Norfolk avoided the sweep by defeating Durham 4-3 in 12 innings yesterday. The Tides scored two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning on a double by LF Mike Yastrzemski.

RHP Edwin Jackson made his first apperance this season for the Tides, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

1B David Washington extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 1-for-5.

Norfolk faces Louisville at 6:35pm ET. LHO Chris Lee (1-1, 6.75) will start for the Tides.

Norfolk sits 4th place (-8.5) in the South Division standings (12-17).

Bowie defeats Richmond:

Double-A Bowie took game four of the series yesterday from Richmond by a score of 8-4, winning the series 3-1.

CF Garabez Rosa led the Baysox offense with four hits and four RBI, as well as hitting his fourth home run of the season; he extended his hitting streak to eight games, and has hit safely in 21 of 27 games this season.

LF Tucker Nathans collected three hits, going 3-for-5 with a run scored; has seven hits in his past two games, the most in a two-game stretch this season.

2B Adrian Marin finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI; he totaled nine hits during the four-game series.

NOTES: Class-A Carolina took the fourth and final game of the series from Class-A Frederick, winning 5-4 in 10 innings on a walk-off RBI double. Starter LHP Brian Gonzalez surrendered four runs on 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 4.0 innings of work. . . . Class-A Charleston scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and defeat Class-A Delmarva 7-5. RF Jake Ring collected his first career multi home run game, hitting his fifth and sixth home runs of the season and finishing the game 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI; He has a league-high 20 extra-base hits and it was his third four-hit game of the season. . . . Brett Graves made his first start since being promoted to Double-A Midland. The right went a season-high innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five. In eight games at two levels, he sports a 2.43 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. . . . Mike Martin finished the day with a game-high three hits on Sunday afternoon. His three hits matched his season total, as he raised his batting average to .261 on the season.
