"The Line Drive" Staff Report
KANSAS CITY, MO – The Kansas City Royals announced Thursday that infielder Omar Infante has cleared waivers and has become an unrestricted free agent.
This season, Infante was batting .239 with zero home runs and 11 RBIs over 149 at bats.
In 2013, he hit .318, in 2012 he batted .321, and has a career .271 average – decent for a middle infielder. But that was back when Infante was a really productive player.
Becoming an unrestricted free agent means that Infante can sign with any MLB team.
The Royals designated Infante for assignment on June 15.
