The San Diego Padres on Wednesday announced that they have placed C Christian Bethancourt on the 15-day disabled list with a left intercostal strain, and selected C Hector Sanchez from Triple-A El Paso.
Bethancourt left last night’s game after the top of the fourth inning.
Sanchez, 26, is making his second stint with the Padres this season, previously being acquired off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on 5/11 and hitting .313 (5-for-16) in 14 games for San Diego before being designated for assignment and outright to Triple-A El Paso. In 55 games for El Paso he has hit .324 (57-for-176) with 16 doubles, 13 home runs, 40 RBI and 25 runs scored, posting a 1.028 OPS (.392 OBP, .636 SLG).
Sanchez will continue to wear uniform #44 for the Padres.
The team also transferred RHP Tyson Ross from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
