Mets acquire James Loney from San Diego

The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired first baseman James Loney from the San Diego Padres in exchange for cash considerations.

Loney, 32, was hitting .342 (54-158), with 22 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs and 28 RBI in 43 games with El Paso (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. He had .373 on-base percentage with San Diego's Triple-A affiliate. Tampa Bay released the lefthanded-hitter on April 3 and he signed with the Padres on April 8.

The 6-3, 235-pounder batted .280 (101-361) with 16 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBI in 104 games with Tampa Bay in 2015. He was the second-toughest player in the AL to strikeout at 11.41 plate appearances per strikeout (min. 300 plate appearances).

In 2014, he had a 73-game errorless streak at first base and collected a career-high 174 hits with the Rays.

In 10 seasons in the majors, Loney has hit .285 (1,334-4,680) with 251 doubles, 20 triples, 99 home runs, 635 RBI and compiled a .338 on-base percentage with the Dodgers, Rays and Red Sox.

In 22 career postseason games, Loney has hit .354 (28-79) with three home runs and 16 RBI.
