The Boston Red Sox today activated right-handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the 25-man roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez to Triple-A Pawtucket following last night's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Tazawa, 30, was placed on the disabled list on July 14 (retroactive to July 4) with a right shoulder impingement. He has made 35 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season, going 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA (13 ER/32.1 IP) and 37 strikeouts against only eight walks. Opponents have batted .215 (26-for-121) against the Japanese native this season, with lefties hitting only .151 (8-for-53). Signed by Boston as an international free agent in December 2008, Tazawa is 15-19 with four saves and a 3.48 ERA (114 ER/294.2 IP) in 284 career major league outings, including four starts, all with the Red Sox (2009, 2011-16).
Ramirez, 26, has made 11 relief appearances over seven stints with Boston this season, posting no record and a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts. The right-hander has also made 18 appearances with Pawtucket this year, earning three saves and going 1-3 with a 2.36 ERA (7 ER/26.2 IP) and 25 strikeouts compared to eight walks. A fourth-round selection by the Red Sox in the 2011 June Draft, Ramirez has a career 0-1 record with a 5.25 ERA (14 ER/24.0 IP) and 24 strikeouts in 28 major league relief outings, all with the Red Sox. Over five minor league seasons, the 2014 Eastern League mid-season All-Star has a 2.82 ERA (93 ER/297.0 IP) and 276 strikeouts alongside a 12-14 record in 142 games (17 starts).
