Royals acquire OF Billy Burns from Oakland for OF Brett Eibner

The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired outfielder Billy Burns from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Brett Eibner. Burns is currently at Nashville (AAA) and will be assigned to the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, Omaha.

Burns, 26, has played in each of the last three Major League seasons with the A's and is batting .234 with 11 doubles, four triples, 14 stolen bases and 32 runs scored in 73 games this year. His 14 steals are tied for eighth in the American League. He was optioned to Nashville on July 15 and has played in 10 games with the Sounds, batting .293 with four steals and seven runs scored.

The switch-hitting outfielder finished fifth in last year's Rookie of the Year voting, batting .294 with 18 doubles, nine triples, five homers and 26 stolen bases in 125 games. He led Major League rookies in steals, and multi-hit games (47), while topping American League rookies in hits (153). Burns debuted for the A's in 2014 after being acquired from the Washington Nationals the previous offseason.
