Pirates sign two players to minor-league contracts

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players to minor league contracts.

Daniel Cucjen, INF, who tge Pirates assigned to the advanced rookie-level Bristol Pirates, played four seasons at the University of Alabama, where he recorded a .237 average (52-for-219) with four doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI in 100 games (57 starts).

Cucjen hit .205 (23-for-112) with two doubles, a home run and 10 RBI in 28 games as a senior this past season for the Crimson Tide.

Nick King INF, who the Pirates assigned to the short-season A West Virginia Black Bears, played two seasons at the University of Georgia, where he hit a combined .239 with four doubles, three triples, three home runs, 35 RBI and 29 stolen bases in 109 games.

King hit .236 (46-for-195) with a double, triple, two home runs, 20 RBI and a team-high tying 13 stolen bases in 55 games (53 starts) this past season for the Bulldogs. He also appeared in four games this summer for the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League

King's father, Boris King, was selected by the Pirates in the sixth round of the 1983 draft.
