HOUSTON (AP) - Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning and Detroit rallied for a win over Houston.

Detroit trailed 3-0 after George Springer and Tyler White both homered off Justin Verlander (1-1) in the first inning. Detroit scored a run in the second and cut the lead to 1 in the fifth when White was charged with an error after a throw busted through the webbing of his glove, allowing another run to score.

RANGERS 8, ORIOLES 4

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Mitch Moreland's go-ahead double off the right-field fence and Rougned Odor's two-run single highlighted a six-run seventh inning, leading Texas to a victory over Baltimore.

Delino DeShields and Nomar Mazara each had three hits for the Rangers. Mazara, promoted from Triple-A Round Rock last week, has two three-hit games in seven starts.

Keone Kela (1-0), who turned 23 on Saturday, worked a scoreless seventh inning in relief, striking out two and walking one.

The Rangers' big seventh inning helped them overcome solo home runs by Manny Machado, Adam Jones and Chris Davis, who increased the Orioles' major league-leading homer total to 23.

A.J. McFarland (0-1) took the loss after retiring only one of the four batters he faced in relief of starter Yovani Gallardo.

McCutchen's solo shot off Taylor Jungmann in the fifth inning increased the Pirates' lead to 4-0 after they scored three runs in the fourth.

The drive to left field came in the star center fielder's 54th plate appearance. McCutchen was so happy that he stopped in front of dugout after rounding the bases, broke into a big smile and raised his hands skyward.

Niese (2-1) won his second straight start, giving up all three hits while walking three and striking out three in seven innings.

Jungmann (0-2) had his road woes continue as he allowed four runs and six hits in six innings.

MIAMI (AP) - Nick Markakis drove in three runs with three hits and Atlanta won for the second consecutive night after losing their first nine games, beating Miami.

Miami fell to 0-4 at home under first-year manager Don Mattingly.

Markakis put the Braves ahead to stay in the fourth when he drove in a run with his eighth double, most in the majors. He led off the game with a single and hit a two-out, two-run single in the second.

MARINERS 3, YANKEES 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Felix Hernandez looked uncomfortable all afternoon but overcame a career high-tying six walks, and Seattle held off New York for a third straight win.

Alex Rodriguez struck out three times and the 40-year-old heard boos as his hitless slump reached 19 at-bats.

Hernandez (1-1) tied Randy Johnson's team record for career strikeouts, but seemed out of sorts throughout his five innings. The ace constantly pawed the rubber, scuffed the mound and tugged his jersey.
