Rangers sign OF Stubbs, option LHP Claudio, place OF Hamilton on DL

DALLAS, TX - The Texas Rangers on Saturday signed OF Drew Stubbs to a big-league deal.

Stubbs spent Spring Training with the Rangers before opting out of his contract and signing with the Atlanra Braves. He was designated for assignment by Atlanta four days ago.

Stubbs was hitting .235 with a home run, 4 stolen bases, and 20 strikeouts in 38 at-bats this year for the Braves. With the Rangers last year, Stubbs hit just .095, logging three total bases in 26 plate appearances over 27 games.

To make room for Stubbs on their 25-man roster, the Rangers optioned LHP Alex Claudio to Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for Stubbs on theur 40-man roster, however, the Rangers transfered OF Josh Hamilton to the 60-day disabled list.
